The full name of ASCP is the American Society for Clinical Pathology. With over 500,000 certified professionals, ASCP is one of the largest associations of laboratory professionals in the world. Its certificate represents the gold standard in medical laboratory scientist qualification and is widely known as the industry’s “Golden Certificate”.

About ASCPI (ASCPi)

ASCPI is the international certification version established by ASCP specifically for candidates outside the United States. The exam content, difficulty, and certificate validity are identical to ASCP, but eligibility is more flexible (no U.S. local work experience or specific credits required).

Exam Qualification

MLS

Bachelor’s in Medical Laboratory Science, Biological Science, or Chemistry + completion of an MLS training program.

Bachelor’s in Medical Laboratory Science + 3 years of clinical experience.

Bachelor’s degree + completion of a 2-year MLS training program.

Bachelor’s in Biological Science or Chemistry + 5+ years of clinical experience.

Bachelor’s degree + 2-year diploma in Biological Science/Chemistry + 5+ years of clinical experience.

MLT

2-year diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT).

2-year diploma in Biological Science/Chemistry + 2-year MLS training program.

2-year diploma in Biological Science/Chemistry + 3 years of clinical experience.

  • Important Note

    All training or clinical experience must cover blood banking, chemistry, hematology/serology, and microbiology.

    Laboratories must be officially accredited.

    Foreign education requires official transcript evaluation for U.S. degree equivalency.

    ASCPI exams are administered worldwide through Pearson Vue test centers.
